Upshur and Lewis County Flooding Devastates Pregnancy Center

We’re only three days out from the devastating floods of Lewis and Upshur counties in West Virginia. The streets are full of vehicles coming and going with people hustling and bustling with purpose. And yes, there were a few just looking around. The stores and restaurants that can be open are open, and the people are friendly inside. What seems to be top of mind for everyone I was around today is to get what we need, do what we must, and be thankful in all things. Many local restaurants are providing free meals to those in need or are part of the cleanup effort, and many businesses are accepting donations. It’s all hands on deck!
I stopped by the Central WV Center for Pregnancy Care (CWVCPC) again today, and even more volunteers showed up. The work was far from completed, but no one was angry. Tired, yes…but not angry. Only a spirit of fellowship was present. Some were cleaning, and some were removing salvageable items. Others were cutting out the walls 4 ½ feet high to remove the wet timbers and drywall in their storage buildings. Donations of food were available for workers so no one would go hungry while they continued to work. This wasn’t just people from Buckhannon. This was people from Clarksburg and from out of town, stopping by to be useful to those who needed help. It seems in some of the hardest conditions people realize what’s important–human life. That’s why the Pregnancy Center is so near to our hearts. Their purpose is to save human lives. The work that Barbara Kincaid and her team do will have a lasting effect into eternity.
From providing free sonograms for expectant mothers and informing them of the life-giving options available, to providing clothing, diapers, and all things necessary to have a child, the Pregnancy Center is a place of hope. A place of hope and resilience in the middle of a town now devastated by this flash flood. I am so thankful to all who are dedicated to volunteering and providing for their neighbors, their town, and the Pregnancy Center. Let your light shine for all the world to see the hands of God do such good things!
We continue to pray for Lewis and Upshur counties, for the families of those who perished, for the 1,000’s without homes, for all the volunteers, businesses, government agencies, and emergency services personnel. May supernatural perseverance and a peace that cannot be explained blanket our wonderful state of West Virginia. We pray our “Country Roads” be forever the roads to that place we call home, “Almost Heaven, West Virginia.” Amen.

Urgent Flood Recovery Appeal

Dear Friends and Supporters,
The Central WV Center for Pregnancy Care (CWVCPC) is reaching out with heavy hearts and an urgent request for help. The recent catastrophic flooding in Buckhannon, West Virginia has devastated our ability to serve women, children, and families in crisis. While our office remains intact, the heating and cooling systems located in the basement were destroyed, and we lost five buildings that held essential resources for the families who depend on us.
Those buildings contained women’s and children’s clothing, household items, and baby and toddler equipment that parents need to provide safe, stable care. Items such as cribs, car seats, playpens, changing tables, and other necessities were lost. These were not simply stored supplies; they were practical lifelines for mothers, fathers, grandparents, and caregivers working hard to protect and provide for their children.
We are asking our donors, churches, businesses, and community partners to help us replenish these vital items as quickly as possible. Your support will allow us to reopen our resource services, restore a safe and comfortable environment, and continue offering compassionate assistance to families who are already facing difficult circumstances.
Most urgent needs include: Updated 7/29/26
• New or used storage buildings or area to retain items until storage is restored
• New or gently used cribs and crib mattresses
• New car seats that meet current safety standards
• Playpens and pack-and-plays
• Changing tables and diapering supplies
• Women’s, infant, and children’s clothing to 5T
• Maternity Clothes
• Baby Toys, etc.
• Household items for families rebuilding after loss
• Financial gifts to help repair heating and cooling systems and replace critical supplies

Every gift, large or small, will help restore hope and dignity to families in our community. Because safety is especially important for babies and young children, please contact us before donating cribs, car seats, or other equipment so we can confirm current needs and donation guidelines.
